This collection of papers details the investigative activities and expulsion of Treasury Department narcotics agent Walter C. Smith in the mid-1920s. Included are more than 200 pages of reports of drug raids, drug purchases, and arrests in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, 36 pages of a diary detailing undercover drug purchases, a letter charging Smith with filing false reports, and a 5-page, unsigned, typed letter of admission of guilt by an alleged drug agent and mobster who claimed to have framed Smith. There are also photographs and personal documents pertaining to Smith, his family, and his career after leaving the Pennsylvania division of the Internal Revenue Service.
